VECTOR ZERO

• Principal photography took eleven days. Eleven. Days. Watch the ending again and think about that.

• Filmed at a real unfinished dam somewhere in Pennsylvania. The production found a site that had two finished support structures and nothing between them, which is exactly what the script needed. (Thanks to my uncle, who worked in the Canyon warehouse, for this one.)

• The completed dam you see before the breach is a matte painting, and the breach itself is a combination of the painting, a water tank, and a miniature. For eleven days and whatever this movie cost, the ending has no business looking this good. Whoever did the matte work never got credited. If you know who it was, email me.

• The Colonel is never named. Not in the film, not in the credits, not on the box. Walt Mercer said in the one interview anyone can remember that he was told the name was "on a need to know basis."

• Canyon Home Video went bankrupt in 1991. The rights to VECTOR ZERO are, as far as anyone can tell, at the bottom of a filing cabinet in a storage unit. This is why there is no DVD. SIGN THE PETITION.

• The R rating is almost entirely for language. The Colonel says one word 31 times. I counted.

• WHAT IS THE VECTOR: my position, after fifteen years, is that the vector is the payment. Listen to the radio chatter in the bunker scene at low volume. Steve H. disagrees and his theory involves the pants (see below) and honestly at this point I do not rule anything out.
